Writing Tip of the Day-Characters

A heroine must strive to reach her goal. She should not be passive, allowing events or the decisions of others to dictate her actions.

Your comments on heroines over the past week or so are very encouraging. Though I love the male counterpart, I absolutely must love the heroine or the book will be put down. :)

It's good to know my ideas on heroines resonate with you, Bethanne. I'll get to the gentlemen and their role eventually, but the ladies come first--which is, of course, the point here: the main strength of romance novels is that they concentrate on the female protagonist. And yes, a weak heroine, or one so lost in lust that she can't think straight, can turn a book into a Good Will offering from me, too.
